EV Charger Equipment

Which EV Charger Brand Should I Buy?

There is no single best charger for every home. The right choice depends on your vehicle, equipment compatibility, electrical capacity, parking location, useful features, second-EV plans and budget. We can install customer-supplied or company-supplied compatible equipment.

More Miles EV is independent. We are not certified, authorized, endorsed by, a preferred installer for or affiliated with Tesla, ChargePoint or any manufacturer.

Start with the decision, not the logo

What Should I Look for in a Home EV Charger?

Choose equipment as part of the complete vehicle-and-home system. A recognizable brand name alone does not make a charger the right fit.

Vehicle compatibility

We check the exact vehicle, model year and charging equipment together instead of assuming every version uses the same setup.

Useful charging power

The vehicle's onboard AC charger and the home's capacity can both limit speed. More power is not automatically more useful.

Cable reach and placement

The charger should reach the inlet comfortably without creating a poor walking path or an awkward daily routine.

Hardwired or plug-in fit

The better method depends on the equipment, location, electrical plan and applicable installation requirements.

Features you will use

App controls, scheduling and other functions vary by specific equipment. We focus on supported features that matter to you.

Location and future plans

Indoor or outdoor placement, support for that setting, a future EV and total installed cost all belong in the decision.

Service and support availability, indoor or outdoor suitability, and total installed cost should also be checked for the specific equipment. Feature support varies, so we never promise app, scheduling or other functions without verifying the exact product.

Two common starting points

Tesla Wall Connector vs ChargePoint: How Should I Think About the Choice?

Tesla and ChargePoint are two brands we often consider for quality and value. We do not declare a winner without checking the exact vehicle, equipment and installation.

Can You Install a Charger I Already Bought?

Yes, if it is compatible and suitable. Send the make, model, a photo and the rating label. We will tell you whether it fits the vehicle, location and electrical plan before installation.

We confirm circuit needs, whether the equipment is intended for hardwired or plug-in use, and whether buying something different would make more sense. No manufacturer relationship influences that review.

Should I Buy the Charger Before Calling an Installer?

Not necessarily. Calling first can prevent a purchase that does not fit the vehicle, panel, parking location or future plan.

If you already own one, that is fine. If not, we can recommend compatible equipment after learning what you drive and how you park.

Installation method

Hardwired vs Plug-In EV Chargers

Neither option is right for every project. A hardwired charger has a fixed electrical connection. A plug-in charger uses a compatible receptacle and can be unplugged.

The decision depends on the specific equipment, mounting location, electrical route, indoor or outdoor setting, desired flexibility and applicable requirements. Both approaches still need a correctly planned electrical installation.

Right-sized charging

How Much Charging Power Do I Need?

We do not automatically install the biggest circuit. The useful choice is the level your vehicle, charger, home and routine can support together.

32A Level 2

Approximate power
7.7 kW
Planning role
Strong overnight charging for many routines
Required review
Vehicle, equipment and load calculation

40A Level 2

Approximate power
9.6 kW
Planning role
Additional overnight recovery where useful
Required review
Vehicle, equipment and load calculation

48A Level 2

Approximate power
11.5 kW
Planning role
Higher-capacity home charging where fully supported
Required review
Vehicle, equipment and load calculation

Actual charging is limited by the vehicle's onboard AC charger, charger configuration, battery state, conditions and the installed circuit and equipment. A bigger number does not automatically mean faster charging.

What About Two EVs?

One charger may be shared when parking and schedules allow. Two chargers may work where capacity supports them. Power sharing or load management is an option only when the specific compatible equipment supports it.

Even if the second EV is later, thoughtful conduit, circuit and placement planning today can simplify the future project.

Brand-independent installation

What If I Don't Want Tesla or ChargePoint?

That is completely fine. More Miles EV installs other major compatible chargers after checking the specific product, vehicle and home.

Send us the exact charger you are considering, or simply tell us your goals. We will review compatibility, practical features, installation method and total project fit without steering you toward a manufacturer relationship.

Check a charger I'm considering

No technical homework

What We Need to Recommend a Charger

A few vehicle details and safe photos are enough for us to begin.

  • EV make, model and year, if known
  • Whether you already own a charger
  • Desired smart features, if any
  • Garage, carport or outdoor parking
  • Panel photo — cover open, screws in
  • Photo of the desired charger location
  • Approximate route or distance
  • Second-EV plans and comments

Open the cover, keep the screws

Do not remove any screws. Open the panel cover and photograph the breaker panel and the service location label, usually on the inside door panel.

From options to ready-to-charge

A Simple Four-Step Process

  1. 1

    Share your vehicle and property

Tell us what you drive, where you park and whether you already own a charger, then send simple breaker-panel and location photos.

  2. 2

    We review equipment compatibility

We check the exact charger, vehicle, installation method, practical features, panel capacity and future household plans.

  3. 3

    Receive a clear estimate

You get a written scope and price showing the electrical work and whether charger hardware is included or separate.

  4. 4

    We install, configure and test

We complete the installation, configure supported settings, test the system, document the work and coordinate permits or inspection where applicable.

Typical planning ranges

What Does the Complete Installation Cost?

The equipment choice is only one part of the project. Your written estimate reflects the actual charger, panel, route, placement and site.

Residential Level 2 installation

For many straightforward home installations. Final cost depends on route, placement, equipment, panel capacity and permitting.

$1,000–$2,000typical planning range

  • Equipment compatibility review
  • Dedicated circuit and charger installation
  • Configuration, testing and documentation

Panel upgrade

Considered only after a load calculation shows the existing system cannot support a practical charging solution.

$3,000–$5,000when genuinely required

  • Not assumed from empty breaker spaces
  • Lower-current and load-management options considered
  • Separate written scope when required

Charger hardware cost is separate unless the written estimate specifically says it is included. See the complete EV charger installation cost guide.

Local planning matters

Parking layouts, wiring routes and approval steps differ from property to property. We review the actual site instead of selling a one-size-fits-all charger package.

FAQ

EV Charger Brand Questions, Answered

Straight answers about choosing, buying and installing compatible home charging equipment.

Which EV charger brand is best for home use?
There is no single best brand for every home. The right choice depends on the vehicle, compatible equipment, property, useful features and budget.
Do I need the same brand charger as my EV?
Not necessarily. Compatibility depends on the exact vehicle and equipment, not simply whether the names on the car and charger match.
Do you install Tesla Wall Connectors?
Yes. We install compatible Tesla Wall Connector equipment after confirming the vehicle, equipment, location and electrical requirements.
Do you install ChargePoint chargers?
Yes. ChargePoint is one of the brands we often consider for quality and value when the specific charger suits the vehicle, home and customer goals.
Can you install a charger I already bought?
Usually, yes, when the equipment is compatible, suitable for the location and supported by a safe electrical installation.
Should I buy a charger before calling you?
No. Calling first can prevent buying equipment that does not fit your vehicle, panel, parking location or future plans.
Is hardwired or plug-in better?
Neither is always better. The right fit depends on the charger, location, installation requirements and how you expect to use the equipment.
Do I need the highest-amperage charger available?
No. The vehicle's onboard AC charger and the home's electrical capacity can both cap useful charging power.
What if we have two EVs?
We can evaluate one shared charger, two chargers where capacity allows, or compatible equipment that supports power sharing or load management.
Are you certified or authorized by Tesla, ChargePoint, or other manufacturers?
No manufacturer certifications or authorizations are claimed. More Miles EV is an independent EV charging installation specialist.
